Arabs At Home And In The World

by Karla M. McKanders, Arabs At Home And In The World Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Arabs At Home And In The World book, This volume brings together an interdisciplinary group of scholars from the United States, the Middle East, and North Africa, to discuss and critically analyze the intersection of gender and human rights laws as applied to individuals of Arab descent. It seeks to raise consciousness at the intersection of gender, identity, and human rights as it relates to Arabs at home and throughout the diaspora. The context of revolution and the destabilizing impact of armed conflicts in the region are used to critique and examine the utility of human rights law to address contemporary human rights issues through extralegal strategies. To this end, the volume seeks to inform, educate, persuade, and facilitate newer or less-heard perspectives related to gender and masculinities theories. It provides readers with new ways of understanding gender and human rights and proposes forward-looking solutions to implementing human rights norms. The goal of this book is to use the context of Arabs at home and throughout the diaspora to critique and examine the utility of human rights norms and laws to diminish human suffering with the goal of transforming the structural, social, and cultural conditions that impede access to human rights. This book will be of interest to a diverse audience of scholars, students, public policy researchers, lawyers and the educated public interested in the fields of human rights law, international studies, gender politics, migration and diaspora, and Middle East and North African politics.

The Many Faces Of National Security In The Arab World

by Rex Brynen, The Many Faces Of National Security In The Arab World Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. This book argues, however, that many of the most serious 'security' challenges to Arab states and societies are rooted not in external military threats but in the imperatives of socio-economic development. Contributors examine the regional security environment; the social and political impact of regional militarization; and underdevelopment as a source of regional insecurity.

Chinese Minorities At Home And Abroad

by Michael Dillon, Chinese Minorities At Home And Abroad Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Chinese Minorities At Home And Abroad book, The classification of ethnic identities (minzu) remains controversial in China. Categories established in the 1950s are still used by the state to administer minority areas, despite the existence of a complicated web of subjective identities which potentially undermines efforts to use these categories effectively. This book offers a new, and sometimes unusual, perspective on ethnic relations in China, and on the interactions between China and other cultures. Two major themes run through the book: the classification of ethnic minorities in China by the state, and the implications of this practice; and the way in which China and the Chinese are seen by outsiders as well as insiders. The contributors, whose research is all based on fieldwork with the relevant communities, are from a wide range of backgrounds and are currently based in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Germany. The subjects of their research are the politics of minority classification in the People’s Republic of China; questions of identity in Xinjiang; Kazakhstani perceptions of China and the Chinese; Chinese Muslims in Malaysia; and the growing Chinese diaspora in Africa. This book was originally published as a special issue of Ethnic and Racial Studies.

Being At Home In The World

by Mark S. McLeod-Harrison, Being At Home In The World Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Being At Home In The World book, Being at Home in the World is a book of Christian Apologetics. But Mark McLeod-Harrison and Phil Smith don't defend Christian faith; instead, they invite readers into faith. In the course of making this invitation, the authors raise suspicions against modern naturalism, offer respectful criticisms of major religions, and explain how Christian beliefs provide an organizing center of a flourishing human life. Their invitation to Christian faith is philosophically sophisticated, but it is also honest and personal; McLeod-Harrison and Smith tell their own stories of how they grew up as Christians and why they remain believers.
