Race And Colorism In Education

by Carla Monroe, Race And Colorism In Education Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Race And Colorism In Education book, As one of the first scholarly books to focus on colorism in education, this volume considers how connections between race and color may influence school-based experiences. Chapter authors question how variations in skin tone, as well as related features such as hair texture and eye color, complicate perspectives on race and they demonstrate how colorism is a form of discrimination that affects educational stakeholders, especially students, families, and professionals, across P-16 institutions. This volume provides an outline of colorism’s contemporary relevance within the United States and shares considerations for international dimensions that are linked to immigration, refugee populations, and Canada. By situating colorism in an educational context, this book offers suggestions for how educators may engage and confront this form of discrimination.

Reclaiming Reading

by Richard J. Meyer, Reclaiming Reading Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Reclaiming Reading book, Inviting teachers back to the role of reflective advocates for thoughtful reading instruction, this book presents theory and pedagogical possibilities to reclaim and build upon the knowledge base that was growing when government mandates, scripted commercial programs, and high stakes tests took over as the dominant agenda for reading instruction in U.S. public schools. Focusing on literacy learners’ and their teachers’ lives as literate souls, it examines how the teaching of reading can be reclaimed via an intensive reconsideration of five pillars as central to the teaching and learning of reading: learning, teaching, curriculum, language, and sociocultural contexts. Reclaiming Reading articulates the knowledge base that was marginalized or disrupted by legislated and policy intrusions into classrooms and provides practical examples for taking good reading instruction out of the cracks and moving it back to the center of the classroom. Explaining what happens in readers’ minds as they read and how teachers can design practices to support that process, this book encourages teachers to initiate pedagogy that will help them begin or return to the stance of reflective, knowledgeable, professional decision-makers.

A Sourcebook Of Dental Medicine

by Gerald Shklar, A Sourcebook Of Dental Medicine Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download A Sourcebook Of Dental Medicine book, The aim of this book is to make available to the profession of Dental Medicine and other interested parties the extensive literature of the past dealing with the diagnosis, description, causes, treatment and prevention of oral diseases. Drs. Shklar and Chernin are presenting the original texts concerning the diagnosis and management of oral diseases ranging from ancient Egypt through the world of the 20th Century. Until the 19th Century, the management of oral disease was an essential part of medical practice, and the texts on oral disease are to be found in the major medical and surgical treatises. The very first books on dentistry, such as the Artzey Buclein of the 16th century were mere compilations from the classical physicians of Greece and Rome, together with some Arabic texts that have been translated into Latin. Many of the basic texts of the past have already been translated into English, French and German from the original Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, and Arabic. However, a number of important texts have never been translated into English. The authors are presenting all these materials to the English reading professionals in Medicine and Dental Medicine in this 864 page reference book.
