The Projects Of Skunk Works

by Steve Pace, The Projects Of Skunk Works Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download The Projects Of Skunk Works book, The stories behind more than 50 secret projects undertaken by the famed Lockheed Martin Skunk Works on behalf of the US Armed Forces, DARPA, and the CIA - all illustrated with official Skunk Works photography and commissioned artworks. Hatched in June 1943 after a special request of the US Army Air Forces to develop a turbojet-powered fighter to counter growing German threats, Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works has gone on to develop remarkable aeronautical and space technologies, including stealth. Some have made it into production, while others never quite made it off drafting boards and computer screens, but proved fascinating nonetheless. This generously illustrated history tackles Skunk Works programs ranging from jet fighters and jet engines to missiles and rockets, helicopters, research aircraft, airships, unmanned aerial vehicles and recon drones, and even the seagoing stealth ship Sea Shadow - more than 50 in all. Author Steve Pace examines the historical context which led government organizations to approach the Skunk Works, as well as the technologies and projects developed there (often on a handshake and unburdened by bureaucracies), and the anecdotes and legends associated with each program. Pace includes official Skunk Works photography of the projects taken both at its headquarters and at test facilities such as Area 51. In addition, commissioned color artworks help further illustrate many of these projects featured herein. In addition to profiling legendary aircraft like the F-80, F-94, F-104, U-2, SR-71, F-117, and F-35, Pace takes on more obscure projects from the past as well as those still to come, such as the hypersonic SR-72 and High Speed Strike Weapon, and even offers a peak into what the future might hold with the proposed TR-X.

The Hanson Legacy

by VINCENT M. MESSBARGER, MD, The Hanson Legacy Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download The Hanson Legacy book, "Cocheta" is a Native American word meaning "That you cannot imagine," an appropriate name for America's "blackest" research facility. Hidden inside a mountain in a remote and inhospitable region of the frigid Canadian Rockies, the massive complex is a high-tech laboratory for a handful of the most brilliant minds on earth. Together, they struggle to understand and duplicate exotic extraterrestrial technology before America's enemies do... or before an unspeakable horror arrives from deep space. Benjamin Hanson, PhD is the project's greatest resource... and a dying man. His ultimate goal: unite the world in developing a defense against what he believes to be a coming invasion. To make it happen, he needs a clever plan. One that will topple a well-established culture of secrecy, allow him to evade those who watch his every move and neutralize a ruthless bureaucrat before the cruel tentacles of incurable cancer rob him of his life. The Hanson Legacy chronicles Ben Hanson's life, from a humble childhood in a rural Oklahoma town to his climactic struggle with an evil, self-absorbed administrator determined to keep secret the other-worldly horrors hidden in Cocheta Mountain... and lethal "accidents" involving more than a dozen retired project scientists. The fate of the entire planet may very well rest on the outcome of Dr. Hanson's vital and final mission. Sacrifice, devotion, duty, honor... and a timeless, beautiful love story that endures vicious tragedy and desolate separation. The Hanson Legacy transcends the Sci-Fi genre and will leave you anxiously waiting for Book Two: The Hanson Conundrum! "The story grabbed me by the throat from the first page and left me almost breathless until the exciting climactic scenes. The characters are strong, superbly developed and totally believable... If you read this book, make sure you have a long flight or a few free days ahead of you --- you won't be able to put it down!" Have Blue And The F 117a

by David C. Aronstein, Have Blue And The F 117a Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Have Blue And The F 117a book, "Have Blue and the F-117A: Evolution of the Stealth Fighter "documents the history, observations, and lessons learned from the development and acquisition of the first very-low-observable combat aircraft. The book is a case study of the high-payoff, low-profile strike fighter development effort (code-named Have Blue and Senior Trend). Most of the material presented in the book was once highly classified information. The Have Blue stealth technology demonstrator aircraft had its genesis in 1974 with studies of Soviet radar-guided air defense systems. In 1978, the U.S. Air Force initiated full-scale development of the F-117A under the Senior Trend program, which aimed to create a weapon system capable of highly survivable precision attacks against an enemys high-value targets. In 1991, the aircraft played a key role in the air campaign against Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. The book describes the clear vision, strong leadership and teamwork, rapid-response decision making, and keen focus on achieving an operational capability that marked the project. Also discussed are potential applications of the strategies used in the project to todays acquisition environment.

Area 51 Black Jets

by Bill Yenne, Area 51 Black Jets Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Area 51 Black Jets book, Area 51's most important military aviation developments are profiled in an illustrated format. When most of us think of Area 51, we think of aliens, UFOs, and controversial government cover-ups. It's easy to forget that, since the mid-1950s, the United States' famed extension of Edwards Air Force Base has served as a top-secret CIA testing ground for many of the most groundbreaking advancements in American military aviation technology. In Area 51 - Black Jets, author and military historian Bill Yenne offers the first fully illustrated chronology of Area 51's most famous aircraft projects, including Lockheed's U-2 "Dragon Lady" and SR-71 "Blackbird" reconnaissance planes, drones ranging from the early Lockheed D-21 to the modern-day General Atomics MQ-1 Predator, and the famous F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter produced by the Have Blue program during the 1970s. Each project is given its own fascinating chapter illuminating the aircraft's development at this famed location. But beyond the aircraft themselves, Area 51 - Black Jets also covers a handful of the many classified experimental programs carried out at Area 51 over the years, such as Have Doughnut, Have Ferry, and Have Drill - secret undertakings that successfully reverse-engineered such enemy aircraft as the Russian MiG during the Cold War. Presented in beautiful hardcover format and illustrated with historic color and black-and-white photographs, diagrams, and maps, this book reveals Area 51 for what it truly is: a clandestine area for the United States' most cutting-edge technological innovators in military aviation.
