Download book, تأتي هذه الترجمة بعد 50 سنة على ترجمة الخوري يوحنا الحلو لهذه الاعترافات. وهي منقولة عن اللاتينية، وتميّزها هوامش وتعليقات، يصعُب فهم النص من دونها، وضعها العلّامة بيار دي لابريول، إضافة إلى معجم عربي لاتيني فرنسي لمصطلحات وألفاظ القديس أوغستينوس. يُعدّ أوغستينوس، من أشهر آباء الكنيسة، ومن أبرز مؤسّسيها. وهو من أصل بربريّ، ترَوْمَنَت أسرته. وكان أبوه متشبّثاً بالوثنيّة القديمة، في حين كانت أمّه "مونيكا" مسيحيّة متّقدة الإيمان، أثّرت في ابنها أيّما تأثير، حتى بعد أن تجاوز طور المراهقة وطيش الشباب، تاب واعتنق دينها. كان أوغستينوس قاضياً وداعية وخطيباً، يُلقّب بالأفريقيّ، وكان فعلاً أفريقيّا أصيلاً، يلبس قميصا أبيض من صوف ويضع على رأسه قلنسوة بيضاء وفي رجليه نعل، ويجوب المقاطعة الأفريقية على ظهر حمار أو بغلة، أو على قدميه، مقاوماً الفساد والشعوذة وبقايا الوثنيّة. لهذا النصّ قيمة مرجعيّة تاريخيّة، إذ نقل الفلسفة الروحانيّة اليونانيّة من ثوبها الأفلاطونيّ الحديث، وخاصّة الأفلوطينيّ، إلى أجواء مسيحّية صرف، مُمهّدًا بذلك الطريق إلى الفكر اللاهوتيّ الغربي. ولئن طغت العقيدة المسيحيّة على أعمال أوغستينوس الأخرى، فإنّ "الاعترافات" مثّلت الفترة التاريخيّة التي تأرجح فيها الفكر الإنسانيّ بين العقلانيّة والتصوّف، كما مثّلت نهاية التاريخ القديم وبداية العصر الوسيط. في هذه "الاعترافات" مراجعة للنفس وتأصيل للنقد الذاتي ومشروع روحاني ترك تأثيرًا كبيرًا على المسيحية من بعده. وهي بمثابة "شاهد" أو علامة فكرية بارزة، في مسيرة الحضارة الكونية.
