My Outdoor Life

by Ray Mears, My Outdoor Life Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download My Outdoor Life book, 'If Ray Mears isn't a Great Living Englishman, then goodness me, who is? Ray is a persuader, pragmatist and populariser in the Durrell-Attenborough-Bellamy tradition.' - Robert Crampton, The Times Ray Mears is a household name through his television series Tracks, World of Survival, Bushcraft Survival, The Real Heroes of Telemark and many more. He is a private individual who shuns publicity whenever possible and would prefer to let his many skills tell their own tale - until now. In My Outdoor Life, Ray tells of his childhood and the formative years when he first developed a passion for both bushcraft and the martial arts skills that are central to his life. Having travelled the world several times over, he is no stranger to risk and has had more than his fair share of dangerous and life-threatening encounters to share with his readers. But his life is so much more than a tale of derring-do. Shortly after he returned to England having narrowly survived a serious helicopter crash, his father died. Just a year later, he had to face the death of his first wife Rachel. The book conveys the many sides of Ray Mears, taking us up to the present day - including the previously untold story of his involvement in the man-hunt for murderer Raoul Moat. My Outdoor Life gives us all a chance to share a life-story as rich and as inspirational as a walk in woods with the man himself, Ray Mears.

An Outdoor Sporting Life

by Scott Irwin, An Outdoor Sporting Life Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download An Outdoor Sporting Life book, Scott Irwin grew up in a time when children did chores that instilled a hands-on work ethic, but there was still time to explore the wild things. Armed first with a slingshot carefully crafted from a forked box elder limb and powered by pre-WWII red rubber inner tube strips, he was soon using a Daisy BB gun to hunt backyard critters. He also enjoyed small-water fishing. By age twelve, he was stalking squirrels and cottontails, and it wasn’t long before he’d mastered a tack-driving Remington 511 .22 with five-shot clip that thinned out the jackrabbits that swarmed southwest Kansas in the 1950s. Later, he’d buy a Winchester Model 12 that opened up a whole new realm of wing shooting. It was a love affair that would continue through marriage, graduate school, and a distinguished career as a public school and university teacher—all the way until “retirement.” He’d also write a popular column about his outdoor adventures for The Emporia Gazette, and he shares his greatest, wildest adventures across the Kansas Flint Hills, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, South Dakota, and West Texas in “An Outdoor Sporting Life.”

A Life Outdoors

by Robert D. Sopuck, A Life Outdoors Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download A Life Outdoors book, The 21st Century is a time of profound and wrenching change. The phrase “stop the world, I want to get off” never seemed more appropriate. Robert Sopuck caught his first fish at age 4 in the presence of his father. That fish set off a lifetime of exploration of the natural world. He and his bride, the inestimable Caroline, live on 480 acres of wild land south of Manitoba’s Riding Mountain National Park. This book is about their way of life as modern country people who have developed a profound relationship with the land, wildlife, and the ecosystem that supports them. This book describes a way of living with Nature via detailed, funny, informative, and sometimes poignant essays. The first essay, “It All Started with This Fish,” describes the beginning of this journey while the second last, “Hunting with Dad” describes his emotions while speaking at his father’s funeral about their shared outdoor experiences that made him who he is. In between there are hunting stories, “how to” essays on wild food preparation, and descriptions of unique wildlife experiences. “A Life Outdoors” will show the reader that there is a way of life “out there” that is authentic, joyous, and profound.

The Palgrave International Handbook Of Women And Outdoor Learning

by Tonia Gray, The Palgrave International Handbook Of Women And Outdoor Learning Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download The Palgrave International Handbook Of Women And Outdoor Learning book, This Handbook serves as a starting point for critical analysis and discourse about the status of women in outdoor learning environments (OLEs). Women choose to participate actively in outdoors careers, many believing the profession is a level playing field and that it offers alternatives to traditional sporting activities. They enter outdoor learning primarily on the strength of their enthusiasm for leading and teaching in natural environments and assume the field is inclusive, rewarding excellence regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status, disability, or ethnicity. However, both research and collective experiences in OLEs suggest that many women feel invisible, relegated, marginalized, and undervalued. In response to this marginalization, this Handbook celebrates the richness of knowledge and practices of women practitioners in OLEs. Women scholars and practitioners from numerous fields, such as experiential outdoor education, adventure education, adventure therapy, and gender studies, explore the implications of their research and practice using poignant examples within their own disciplines. These insights emerge from similar life experiences as women and outdoor leaders in the 1970s to the present. Social inequalities still abound in OLEs, and the Handbook ensures that the contributions of women are highlighted as well as the work that needs to be done to make these spaces inclusive. Global in perspective and capacious in content, this one-stop volume is an indispensable reference resource for a diverse range of academics, including students and researchers in the fields of education, psychology, sociology, gender studies, geography, and environment studies, as well as the many outdoors fields.
