The Enlightened Experience

by Lama Yeshe, The Enlightened Experience Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download The Enlightened Experience book, This is the second of a two volume collection drawn from teachings given by Lama Thubten Yeshe in the 1970s and 1980s, when he traveled the world extensively along with Lama Zopa Rinpoche and taught at many courses, seminars and public talks. Lama Yeshe was a pioneer in bringing the Dharma to Westerners and the teachings in this book demonstrate his understanding of the Western psyche and his ability to express profound truths in simple terms. Lama Zopa Rinpoche has described Lama Yeshe as a great, hidden yogi, with high attainments that weren’t shown to others. As well as showing the path to enlightenment to his students, Lama was like a parent, giving advice and happiness. Rinpoche said, “Lama’s particular skill was to know exactly what was needed right at that particular time, so even with just a smile or a few words he made others happy and gave them hope.” In this second volume, Lama Yeshe discusses a range of topics including refuge, impermanence, the death process, karma and emptiness. The book includes several excerpts from a commentary on the tantric deity yoga practice of Manjushri and a poignant last letter to Lama’s close friend Geshe Jampa Wangdu, written when Lama was seriously ill.

Dharma

by Alf Hiltebeitel, Dharma Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Dharma book, Between 300 BCE and 200 CE, concepts and practices of dharma attained literary prominence throughout India. Both Buddhist and Brahmanical authors sought to clarify and classify their central concerns, and dharma proved a means of thinking through and articulating those concerns. Alf Hiltebeitel shows the different ways in which dharma was interpreted during that formative period: from the grand cosmic chronometries of kalpas and yugas to narratives about divine plans, gendered nuances of genealogical time, royal biography (even autobiography, in the case of the emperor Asoka), and guidelines for daily life, including meditation. He reveals the vital role dharma has played across political, religious, legal, literary, ethical, and philosophical domains and discourses about what holds life together. Through dharma, these traditions have articulated their distinct visions of the good and well-rewarded life. This insightful study explores the diverse and changing significance of dharma in classical India in nine major dharma texts, as well some shorter ones. Dharma proves to be a term by which to make a fresh cut through these texts, and to reconsider their own chronology, their import, and their relation to each other.

A Dictionary Of Chinese Buddhist Terms

by William Edward Soothill, A Dictionary Of Chinese Buddhist Terms Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download A Dictionary Of Chinese Buddhist Terms book, This invaluable interpretive tool, first published in 1937, is now available for the first time in a paperback edition specially aimed at students of Chinese Buddhism. Those who have endeavoured to read Chinese texts apart from the apprehension of a Sanskrit background have generally made a fallacious interpretation, for the Buddhist canon is basically translation, or analogous to translation. In consequence, a large number of terms existing are employed approximately to connote imported ideas, as the various Chinese translators understood those ideas. Various translators invented different terms; and, even when the same term was finally adopted, its connotation varied, sometimes widely, from the Chinese term of phrase as normally used by the Chinese. For instance, klésa undoubtedly has a meaning in Sanskrit similar to that of, i.e. affliction, distress, trouble. In Buddhism affliction (or, as it may be understood from Chinese, the afflicters, distressers, troublers) means passions and illusions; and consequently fan-nao in Buddhist phraseology has acquired this technical connotation of the passions and illusions. Many terms of a similar character are noted in the body of this work. Consequent partly on this use of ordinary terms, even a well-educated Chinese without a knowledge of the technical equivalents finds himself unable to understand their implications.

Bhagavan Shri Krsna Bhagavat Dharma

by Ashim Bhattacharyya, Bhagavan Shri Krsna Bhagavat Dharma Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Bhagavan Shri Krsna Bhagavat Dharma book, Shri Krsna and Bhāgavat Dharma by Shri Jagadish Chandra Ghose written in Bengali discusses the teachings of Shri Krsna with quotes from various books of Shāstras. Shri Krsna and Bhāgavat Dharma discusses mainly four subjects: First the book considers Shri Krsna as Brahman, Ishvara or Bhagavān as is meant by "Ishvarah paramah Krsnah sacchidānandavigrahah" meaning "Krsna is Ishvara; He is Sat-Cit-Ānanda"; this has been supported by quotations from the Vedānta, Purānas and Vaishnava Shāstras. Second, the discussion is on Shri Krsna's divine love plays (Lilā). Through these divine love plays the Bliss or Ānanda aspect of Shri Krsna, the Sat-Cit-Ānanda is expressed. These expressions are explained with quotes from the Purānas. Third, there is discussion about the main objectives of human life. Finally, the book explains what Shri Krsna taught His disciples Arjuna and Uddhava about His doctrines and Dharma using quotes extensively from Bhagavad Gitā and the Bhāgavat. This English translation Bhagavān Shri Krsna and Bhāgavat Dharma follows the format as closely as possible to the original Bengali book.

Radical Dharma

by Rev. angel Kyodo williams, Radical Dharma Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Radical Dharma book, Igniting a long-overdue dialogue about how the legacy of racial injustice and white supremacy plays out in society at large and Buddhist communities in particular, this urgent call to action outlines a new dharma that takes into account the ways that racism and privilege prevent our collective awakening. The authors traveled around the country to spark an open conversation that brings together the Black prophetic tradition and the wisdom of the Dharma. Bridging the world of spirit and activism, they urge a compassionate response to the systemic, state-sanctioned violence and oppression that has persisted against black people since the slave era. With national attention focused on the recent killings of unarmed black citizens and the response of the Black-centered liberation groups such as Black Lives Matter, Radical Dharma demonstrates how social transformation and personal, spiritual liberation must be articulated and inextricably linked. Rev. angel Kyodo williams, Lama Rod Owens, and Jasmine Syedullah represent a new voice in American Buddhism. Offering their own histories and experiences as illustrations of the types of challenges facing dharma practitioners and teachers who are different from those of the past five decades, they ask how teachings that transcend color, class, and caste are hindered by discrimination and the dynamics of power, shame, and ignorance. Their illuminating argument goes beyond a demand for the equality and inclusion of diverse populations to advancing a new dharma that deconstructs rather than amplifies systems of suffering and prepares us to weigh the shortcomings not only of our own minds but also of our communities. They forge a path toward reconciliation and self-liberation that rests on radical honesty, a common ground where we can drop our need for perfection and propriety and speak as souls. In a society where profit rules, people's value is determined by the color of their skin, and many voices—including queer voices—are silenced, Radical Dharma recasts the concepts of engaged spirituality, social transformation, inclusiveness, and healing.
