Lacunae

by Daniel Nadler, Lacunae Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Lacunae book, Lacunae, Daniel Nadler's debut collection, is an exercise in poetics of vital import. In it, Nadler imagines himself into those moments of unintelligibility--that blank space in between things--where constraint and expansion coincide. These poems, translations of work that does not otherwise exist, are intended to fill the invented or actual lacunae in manuscripts of classical Indian poetry. When faced with such ellipses, like where a few decisive hieroglyphs have worn off a wall, he infers and reconstructs the flora, fauna, and pleasures of an ancient world. "Like the wind that gusts coastal pines toward the water / sleep bends me toward my lover / and I cannot drink from her": Nadler's is a project of constant negotiation. He attends to impulses of restoration and conservation, in turns. From this tension arises verse of simplicity and clarity of vision, imbued with that trembling quality of new life "luminous and half-naked." Lacunae, deeply felt and gnomically wise, dares to pave a poetic landscape all its own, the work of a remarkable new poet with enormous ambition and ability.

Cytopathology Of Bone And Soft Tissue Tumors

by Lester J. Layfield, Cytopathology Of Bone And Soft Tissue Tumors Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Cytopathology Of Bone And Soft Tissue Tumors book, Cytopathology of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors provides the practicing pathologist with a single reference for describing and illustrating the cytologic features of musculoskeletal tumors. Using fine-needle aspiration (FNA), the approach of this work is encyclopedic: both relatively common and relatively rare lesions are depicted. It is expected that Cytopathology of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors will serve to widen the usage of the FNA technique which can: substantially decrease patient morbidity; lessen the complications that arise due to other biopsy techniques; and shorten the time as well as expense required for diagnosis. The chapters on soft tissue lesions are organized by direction of differentiation. Each chapter documents both the common and uncommon lesions within the tissue group. Summaries of clinical findings are given along with the histopathologic and cytologic description. Key diagnostic points (in tabular form) and a discussion of the differential diagnosis complete each section. The section on skeletal lesions is organized along predominant cell type seen in smears. This approach facilitates grouping of lesions into diagnostically useful categories, allowing the pathologist faced with an unfamiliar lesion to rapidly access the portion of the text most useful for differential diagnosis. Within each chapter, the organization is similar to that within the soft tissue chapters. The introduction discusses technical concerns, limitations of the technique, and a diagnostic approach in both tabular and narrative form. Information on grading of soft tissue sarcomas completes the introduction.

Structure

by Geoffrey Bourne, Structure Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Structure book, The Biochemistry and Physiology of Bone, Second Edition: Volume I: Structure focuses on the nature and behavior of bone cells, the structure of the organic matrix of bone, mineral organization, and bone strength. It explores the histology of bone, the pathological calcification and radiation effects on bone, particularly, the morphology and cytochemistry as well as the functional significance of osteoblasts, the mode of action of the osteoclast, the ultrastructure of bone, and the mechanical engineering problems presented by bone. Organized into nine chapters, this edition begins with an overview of the general histology of bone, including tissues related to bone and its elementary constituents. It then discusses the origin of osteoblasts, the role of the osteoclast in the mechanism whereby calcium is unlocked from the skeleton under the influence of the parathyroid hormone, and the physiological and pathological effects of vitamins and hormones on skeletal tissue in vitro. It also explains the chemical composition of bone and the chemistry of bone collagen, the relationship between bone mineral and the organic matrix, the macromolecular organization of apatite and collagen, and the examinations of bone by scanning electron microscopy. The book concludes with a chapter on the shape, strength, and elasticity of bone. This book is a valuable source of information for anatomists, orthopedists, biochemists, cell biologists, physiologists, biomedical engineers, pathologists, clinicians, graduate students, professors, and others interested in the biochemical and physiological aspects of bone.

Health Disease And Causal Explanations In Medicine

by L.Y Nordenfelt, Health Disease And Causal Explanations In Medicine Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Health Disease And Causal Explanations In Medicine book, On May 13-15, 1982, some 50 scientists and scholars - physicians, philos ophers and social scientists - convened at Hasselby Castle in Stockholm for the first Nordic Symposium on the Philosophy of Medicine. The topics for the symposium included (1) the concepts of health and disease, (2) classification in medicine, and (3) causality and causal explanations in medicine. The majority of the participants were Scandinavian but the symposium was also able to welcome four distinguished guests from other parts of the world, Professors Stuart F. Spicker and H. Tristram Engelhardt, Jr., U.S.A., Dr Anne M. Fagot, France, and Dr Werner Morbach, West Germany. The latter represented Professor Kazem Sadegh-zadeh, who unfortunately was prevented from attending. One of the main purposes of this symposium was to bring together people in Scandinavia who at present work within the field of Philosophy of Medi cine. This group is still relatively small but is growing rapidly, and the scholarly activity has recently been notable. This fact is clearly demonstrated by the presentation of 'Philosophy of Medicine in Scandinavia' in the Appendix of this volume.
