Islamophobia

by Dr Chris Allen, Islamophobia Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Islamophobia book, Despite numerous sources suggesting that Islamophobia is becoming both increasingly prevalent and societally acceptable in the contemporary world, there remains a lack of textual sources that consider either the phenomenon itself, or its manifestations and consequences. There is no authoritative text that attempts to understand or contextualise what might be seen to be one of the most dangerous prejudices in the contemporary climate. Chris Allen begins by looking at ways of defining and understanding Islamophobia. He traces its historical evolution to the present day, considering the impact of recent events and their aftermath especially in the wake of the events of September 11, before trying to understand and comprehend a wider conception of the phenomenon. A series of investigations thematically consider the role of the media, the contemporary positioning of Muslims throughout the world, and whether Islamophobia can be seen to be a continuum of historical anti-Muslimism or anti-Islamism, or whether Islamophobia is an entirely modern concept. The issue of Islamophobia is considered from the perspective of the local, regional, and global. The incidence of Islamophobia, and the magnitude of the phenomenon and its consequences, is one that warrants a greater investigation in the world today. This book is both academically and socially relevant and necessary.

Global Islamophobia

by George Morgan, Global Islamophobia Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Global Islamophobia book, The decade since 9/11 has seen a decline in liberal tolerance in the West as Muslims have endured increasing levels of repression. This book presents a series of case studies from Western Europe, Australia and North America demonstrating the transnational character of Islamophobia. The authors explore contemporary intercultural conflicts using the concept of moral panic, revitalised for the era of globalisation. Exploring various sites of conflict, Global Islamophobia considers the role played by 'moral entrepreneurs' in orchestrating popular xenophobia and in agitating for greater surveillance, policing and cultural regulation of those deemed a threat to the nation's security or imagined community. This timely collection examines the interpenetration of the global and the local in the West's cultural politics towards Islam, highlighting parallels in the responses of governments and in the worrying reversion to a politics of coercion and assimilation. As such, it will be of interest to scholars of sociology and politics with interests in race and ethnicity; citizenship and assimilation; political communication, securitisation and The War on Terror; and moral panics.

Islamophobia In Australia

by Alice Aslan, Islamophobia In Australia Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Islamophobia In Australia book, Islamophobia is a contemporary form of cultural racism against Muslims. It has emerged in Australia as an outcome of general public opposition to multiculturalism and migration as well as in response to international conflicts involving Muslims. ISLAMOPHOBIA IN AUSTRALIA is a timely book that traces the rise of racism against Muslims through an extensive analysis of critical events and issues including the Gulf War, the September 11 terror attacks, the Bali bombings, ethnic crime, ethnic gang rapes, Middle Eastern asylum seekers, the Cronulla riots and the negative portrayals of Muslims and Muslim women in the Australian media and public discourse. Since tolerance does not offer minorities social acceptance or equality in contemporary multicultural societies, this book suggests that the recognition of Muslims and minorities as "real Australians" and as "one of us" and giving them "a fair go" are the key ingredients of a more democratic, equal and truly multicultural Australia in the 21st century.

Islamophobia

by John L. Esposito, Islamophobia Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Islamophobia book, Islamophobia has been on the rise since September 11, as seen in countless cases of discrimination, racism, hate speeches, physical attacks, and anti-Muslim campaigns. The 2006 Danish cartoon crisis and the controversy surrounding Pope Benedict XVI's Regensburg speech have underscored the urgency of such issues as image-making, multiculturalism, freedom of expression, respect for religious symbols, and interfaith relations. The 1997 Runnymede Report defines Islamophobia as "dread, hatred, and hostility towards Islam and Muslims perpetuated by a series of closed views that imply and attribute negative and derogatory stereotypes and beliefs to Muslims." Violating the basic principles of human rights civil liberties, and religious freedom, Islamophobic acts take many different forms. In some cases, mosques, Islamic centers, and Muslim properties are attacked and desecrated. In the workplace, schools, and housing, it takes the form of suspicion, staring, hazing, mockery, rejection, stigmatizing and outright discrimination. In public places, it occurs as indirect discrimination, hate speech, and denial of access to goods and services. This collection of essays takes a multidisciplinary approach to Islamophobia, bringing together the expertise and experience of Muslim, American, and European scholars. Analysis is combined with policy recommendations. Contributors discuss and evaluate good practices already in place and offer new methods for dealing with discrimination, hatred, and racism.

What Is Islamophobia

by Narzanin Massoumi, What Is Islamophobia Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download What Is Islamophobia book, As racist undercurrents in many western societies become manifestly entrenched, the prevalence of Islamophobia - and the need to understand what perpetuates it - has never been greater.Critiquing the arguments found in notionally left accounts and addressing the limitations of existing responses, What is Islamophobia? demonstrates that Islamophobia is not simply a product of abstract, or discursive, ideological processes, but of concrete social, political and cultural actions undertaken in the pursuit of certain interests. The book centres on what the editors refer to as the 'five pillars of Islamophobia': the institutions and machinery of the state; the far right, incorporating the counterjihad movement; the neoconservative movement; the transnational Zionist movement; and assorted liberal groupings including the pro-war left, and the new atheist movement. The book concludes with reflections on existing strategies for tackling Islamophobia, considering what their distinctive approaches mean for fighting back.

Islamophobia And Radicalization

by John L. Esposito, Islamophobia And Radicalization Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Islamophobia And Radicalization book, While the themes of radicalization and Islamophobia have been broadly addressed by academia, to date there has been little investigation of the crosspollination between the two. Is Islamophobia a significant catalyst or influence on radicalization and recruitment? How do radicalization and Islamophobia interact, operate, feed one another, and ultimately pull societies toward polar extremes in domestic and foreign policy? The wide-ranging and global contributions collected here explore these questions through perspectives grounded in sociology, political theory, psychology, and religion. The volume provides an urgently needed and timely examination of the root causes of both radicalization and Islamophobia; the cultural construction and consumption of radical and Islamophobic discourses; the local and global contexts that fertilize these extreme stances; and, finally, the everyday Muslim in the shadow of these opposing but equally vociferous forces.

Islamophobia Islamophilia

by Andrew Shryock, Islamophobia Islamophilia Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Islamophobia Islamophilia book, "Islamophobia" is a term that has been widely applied to anti-Muslim ideas and actions, especially since 9/11. The contributors to this provocative volume explore and critique the usefulness of the concept for understanding contexts ranging from the Middle Ages to the modern day. Moving beyond familiar explanations such as good Muslim/bad Muslim stereotypes or the "clash of civilizations," they describe Islamophobia's counterpart, Islamophilia, which deploys similar oppositions in the interest of fostering public acceptance of Islam. Contributors address topics such as conflicts over Islam outside and within Muslim communities in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia; the cultural politics of literature, humor, and urban renewal; and religious conversion to Islam.

Download Islamophobia book, The events of September 11, 2001 increased occurrences of prejudice, discrimination and racial profiling toward Muslims and individuals identified as Muslims. This study focuses on Islamophobia in the United States. It also explores the factors that affect the American perception of Islam and seeks to discover the best way to prevent Islomophobia and to reduce discrimination against Muslims in America. The study is based on a survey conducted in May 2014 among one hundred students from Central Connecticut State University. My results indicated that the Media is the main factor responsible for creating Islamophobia in the United States. Further, the study found that educating non-Muslims in America about the Islamic religion and culture is the best way to reduce the severity of Islamophobia and prejudice against Muslims in the United States.
