Around The World In 80 Trades

by Conor Woodman, Around The World In 80 Trades Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Around The World In 80 Trades book, Economist Conor Woodman has decided to test his negotiating skills, charm and eye for a bargain against some of the world's oldest trading cultures. He's sold his house to finance the trip, but if his hunches are right – trading Sudanese camels for Zambian coffee, coffee for South African red wine and then off to China to buy jade with the proceeds – he’ll return six months later with a lot of money, some new friends and a whole raft of brilliant tall tales. Whether trading teak or tea, surfboards or seafood, Conor goes head-to-head with the best operators in the world’s most hotly-contested markets. But will years of experience as a business analyst mean anything when he is suspected of being a spy? And can London’s financial bear pit prepare him for a horde of vodka-fuelled horse traders on the plains of central Asia? Part Undercover Economist, part Apprentice challenge, Around the World in 80 Trades offers an exciting insight into the human story behind the money in our pockets, and reminds us that making a living is about exactly that – living.

Around The World In 80 Years

by David Chance, Around The World In 80 Years Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Around The World In 80 Years book, There are 2 parts to the book. The first section covers some of the important events that took place around the world, from the early part of the 19th century, up to the years following World War II. It features the 2 men that I have always admired, both of whom planned and fought against tyranny. Neither of these men actually used weapons in the Second World War, but they did what they had to do, to preserve our freedom. The 2 men are Sir Winston Churchill and my father, both of whom had army careers, dad's lasting for 31 years. Churchill's was a much shorter span, before he moved into Politics. The second part of the book gives details of my travels around the world to 42 countries. To do this, I fl ew a total of 964,995 miles, taking 1430 fl ights on 91 different types of aircraft. In addition I have traveled far more than a million miles by car. There were many times that I got very close to having my life cut short, but somehow I managed to survive, as I am still here at age 79. It was all very interesting to me and I hope that I have been able to convey some of this excitement in what I have written.

Unfair Trade

by Conor Woodman, Unfair Trade Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Unfair Trade book, Many of our favourite brands now openly espouse 'ethical' credentials, so how is it that they can import billions of pounds' worth of goods from the developing world every year while leaving the people who produce them barely scraping a living? Are they being cynically opportunistic? Or is it that global commerce will always be incompatible with the eradication of poverty? And, if so, are charity and fair trade initiatives the only way forward? In Unfair Trade Conor Woodman travels the world - from Nicaragua to the Congo and from Laos to Afghanistan - to establish the truth. In the course of his journeys he uncovers some truly shocking stories about the way big business operates, but he also sees a way forward that could reconcile the apparently irreconcilable.

Not Only The Dangerous Trades

by Barbara Harrison, Not Only The Dangerous Trades Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Not Only The Dangerous Trades book, Using original research and focusing on occupational ill-health in relation to women workers, this book presents a perspective for the analysis of both gender and work and work and ill-health. The author gives a critique of traditional theoretical accounts of gender relations, state intervention and industrial ill-health. The chapters examine the extent to which feminist activists got involved in debates about health and industrial work, and show how activists went beyond the concerns of suffrage.; The book presents a historical period which was marked by a change in the role of the state with respect to intervention in industrial conditions, and analyses the coincidence of this with three other significant developments: the growth of expertise in industrial disease; the employment of women in the factory to take on responsibilities in relation to other women; and changes in the direction of feminist activism. In light of this analysis, the author suggests that some theoretical approaches to both gender relations and health and safety requirements require modification.
