Remake Television

by Carlen Lavigne, Remake Television Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Remake Television book, Remakes are pervasive in today’s popular culture, whether they take the form of reboots, “re-imaginings,” or overly familiar sequels. Television remakes have proven popular with producers and networks interested in building on the nostalgic capital of past successes (or giving a second chance to underused properties). Some TV remakes have been critical and commercial hits, and others haven’t made it past the pilot stage; all have provided valuable material ripe for academic analysis. In Remake Television: Reboot, Re-use, Recycle, edited by Carlen Lavigne, contributors from a variety of backgrounds offer multicultural, multidisciplinary perspectives on remake themes in popular television series, from classic cult favorites such as The Avengers (1961–69) and The X-Files (1993–2002) to current hits like Doctor Who (2005–present) and The Walking Dead (2010–present). Chapters examine what constitutes a remake, and what series changes might tell us about changing historical and cultural contexts—or about the medium of television itself.

Stories We Ve Heard Stories We Ve Told

by Jeffrey Kottler, Stories We Ve Heard Stories We Ve Told Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Stories We Ve Heard Stories We Ve Told book, This is a book that integrates what is known from a wide variety of disciplines about the nature of storytelling and how it influences and transforms people's lives. Drawing on material from the humanities, sociology, anthropology, neurophysiology, media and communication studies, narrative inquiry, indigenous healing traditions, as well as education, counseling, and therapy, the book explores the ways that therapists operate as professional storytellers. In addition, our job is to hold and honor the stories of our clients, helping them to reshape them in more constructive ways. The book itself is written as a story, utilizing engaging prose, research, photographs, and powerful anecdotes to draw readers into the intriguing dynamics and processes involved in therapeutic storytelling. It sets the stage for what follows by discussing the ways that stories have influenced history, cultural development, and individual worldviews and then delves into the ways that everyday lives are impacted by the stories we hear, read, and view in popular media. The focus then moves to stories within the context of therapy, exploring how client stories are told, heard, and negotiated in sessions. Attention then moves to the ways that therapists can become more skilled and accomplished storytellers, regardless of their theoretical preferences and style.

Derek Rosenfeld S Travel Companion

by Derek T. Rosenfeld, Derek Rosenfeld S Travel Companion Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download Derek Rosenfeld S Travel Companion book, Derek Rosenfeld's Travel Companion, Vol. 1 is a world where alternative consciousness is an option, though it is recommended. Do inquire that there is more to your journey than that which you seek, for any limitations could turn into regret. Taking it at face value could also lead to foolishness, and may cause the subject to appear dependent upon outside forces. You do not want such a reflection, or perhaps you do. Regardless, you are on a unique voyage, perhaps never realizing how unique, and should have all eyes and all ears and all heads open and aware of the endless number paths that are just asking to be traversed. Do not hesitate, do not ponder, but if you do, please do it in a timely fashion, and make sure it is done in a constructive matter. Just remember, go, because we all share the same end. And blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah…but what the hell do I know? I’m just a blob in a tie surrounded by five-foot walls, and it’s about time for me to go to lunch. And yes, I will have fries with that.

But as the seasons of life changed, God chose to visit their family in an unexpected way. He dramatically impacted their family and their world when they lost their daughter, Piper Kay, just days before her due date. From the unrelenting touch of God's hand on her heart, Julie began to write. Journey through the story of loss and watch as the hope of Christ Jesus unveils before you. Wrestle in the valleys and climb to the mountaintops with the Brawner family as you allow Piper Kay to leave a mark on your heart unlike any other. Join them—and experience the immeasurable depths of love that shines from the face of the Savior.

King Football

by Michael Oriard, King Football Books available in Docs, PDF, EPUB, Mobi, Textbook, Kindle Format. Download King Football book, This landmark work explores the vibrant world of football from the 1920s through the 1950s, a period in which the game became deeply embedded in American life. Though millions experienced the thrills of college and professional football firsthand during these years, many more encountered the game through their daily newspapers or the weekly Saturday Evening Post, on radio broadcasts, and in the newsreels and feature films shown at their local movie theaters. Asking what football meant to these millions who followed it either casually or passionately, Michael Oriard reconstructs a media-created world of football and explores its deep entanglements with a modernizing American society. Football, claims Oriard, served as an agent of "Americanization" for immigrant groups but resisted attempts at true integration and racial equality, while anxieties over the domestication and affluence of middle-class American life helped pave the way for the sport's rise in popularity during the Cold War. Underlying these threads is the story of how the print and broadcast media, in ways specific to each medium, were powerful forces in constructing the football culture we know today.
